Corticotomy facilitated orthodontics for correction of posterior cross bite with Amex (Asymmetric Maxillary Expansion)

چکیده
Corticotomy is a minor surgical procedure used to facilitate & accelerate tooth movement in certain cases where conventional orthodontics find its limitation. A very few published case reports of corticotomy facilitated orthodontics are present till date to substantiate its scope. Here is case report of a patient who reported to the Department of Orthodontic & Dentofacial Orthopedics after being rejected during her medical examination for armed force service on account of having bilateral posterior crossbite . She was given 60 days for the correction of this malocclusion before she could reappear for the examination . Considering the age for rapid maxillary expansion & limited time circumstance so corticotomy facilitated orthodontic was indicated in this case & also hyrax followed AMEX (asymmetrical maxillary expansion appliance ) was required to correct the crossbite.

Asymmetric maxillary expansion (AMEX) appliance for treatment of true unilateral posterior crossbite.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of an asymmetrical maxillary expansion (AMEX) appliance. Patients with true unilateral posterior crossbites were included in the study. The treatment group consisted of 18 patients who had a mean age of 14 +/- 2.3 years. Treatment effects were evaluated on posteroanterior radiographs, dental casts, and photographs of the dental casts. All unilat...
متن کاملA Clinical Assessment of Corticotomy Facilitated Orthodontics in the Retraction of Maxillary Anterior Segment
Corticotomy facilitated orthodontics has been practising for longer periods, but a novel approach of a periapical incision to make horizontal cuts 5 mm above the apex of the maxillary anteriors along with vertical cuts requires a detailed investigation. The purpose of this study was to assess the outcome of skeletal cases with spacing in the anteriors using a novel method of modified surgical a...
متن کاملUnilateral cross bite treated by corticotomy-assisted expansion: two case reports
BACKGROUND True unilateral posterior crossbite in adults is a challenging malocclusion to treat. Conventional expansion methods are expected to have some shortcomings. The aim of this paper is to introduce a new technique for treating unilateral posterior crossbite in adults, namely, corticotomy-assisted expansion (CAE) applied on two adult patients: one with a true unilateral crossbite and the...

Clinical examination revealed a Class II, division 1 malocclusion with an anterior open bite and mild maxillary and mandibular tooth-sizearch-length discrepancies (Fig. 1, Table 1). The patient’s initial contact upon closure was between the maxillary and mandibular first molars, leading to a complex open bite...
متن کاملHow Does RME Affect Maxillary Arch Width Long Term? Long-Term Effects of Rapid Maxillary Expansion Followed by Fixed Appliances
Background: Maxillary expansion is a routine procedure performed to correct narrow maxillary arch width and posterior cross-bite. We assume, as orthodontists, that our expansion will be stable long term, but is that assumption correct? Objective: To evaluate the long-term changes in maxillary dental arch widths in patients who were treated with rapid maxillary expansion (RME) appliances followe...
